Seminar Responses - CIS371 Spring 2012
Attend two of the six computer architecture seminars, either in person
or watch the on-line video of the talk. Write three paragraphs,
described below. You may submit your answer just in text
copy-and-pasted into Blackboard or via a PDF file uploaded via
Blackboard. This is an individual assignment.
- The first paragraph should be a short "summary" of the talk in which you
describe the motivation, the ideas, the key experiential findings, etc.
- The second paragraph should be a "reaction and critique" paragraph.
Responses may vary, but you might mention what you found most
interesting about the work or particularly liked/disliked about the
work. You might also comment on any flaws of the work or way in which
the work or presentation of the work could have been improved.
- The third paragraph should be a "should we hire them" paragraph. Most
of these seminars are for faculty candidate interviews. For example,
any one of these candidates might be doing research and teaching
CIS371 next year. Would the speaker make a good faculty member? Why
or why not? Should we pursue hiring them?
Obviously, there is not one "right" answer for the above questions.
Instead of looking for some specific answer, we are looking to see you
engaged, thought about the topic being presented, and have something to
say about it.
